the gin game

By D. L. Coburn

May 10 to May 27 • 2018

With Suzanne Lederer and Jonathan Richards.

Directed by Robert Benedetti.

Ever since its New York opening in 1977, this play has attracted extraordinary actors. First, Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy made the play their own. In the 1990s, Charles Durning and Julie Harris picked up the deck. And just last year, James Earl Jones and Cicely Tyson played the game on Broadway. This thoroughly entertaining Pulitzer Prize winner has become an endearing American classic.

director's note

One of the founding principles of NMAL was that our plays should be chosen to showcase and challenge the talents of our member actors. The special abilities of Suzanne Lederer were the driving force behind Driving Miss Daisy in our first season, and The Glass Menagerie last year. Likewise, the redoubtable Jonathan Richards was one of the main reasons we did Sylvia, Proof, Art, and last year’s Heisenberg. We open our 2018 season by pairing these two in a perfect vehicle for their unique talents.
